All of it, while we are getting started: posting work, searching, shortlists, messaging, unlocking a contact. There is no plan to pick and no card to add. When that changes we will say so in plain words first, and nothing you have already posted will be locked.
What you see instead of followers
A confirmed credit: a job somebody did that the person who hired them has said they did. That is what a profile here is made of, and it is the only thing we let anybody be judged on.
Nobody is ranked by followers or likes — a hirer cannot see a follower count at all, and neither can anybody else. Nobody pays to appear higher in a list. What orders a search is craft, city, free days and confirmed work.
You will also see how far somebody is, which days of your shoot they are free, and how fast they usually answer. All of it worked out rather than asked — nobody describes themselves as slow.
Before your work goes live
Somebody reads it. This is the part that keeps crew here, so it applies to everybody:
- Hiring as yourself — a verified email address, and your first piece of work is read by a person before it goes live. Until you have hired somebody you can have three open at a time.
- Hiring as a business — we check the business by hand first: a GST lookup and a short video call. After that its work goes live as you post it, and everybody who runs it can post, message and hire from the same account.
Work that asks crew for money is blocked — registration, audition, portfolio, training, onboarding, or a deposit of any kind, refundable or not. Unpaid work is fine and has to say Collab on it. Never pay to get work is the page your crew will have read.
How you hire
- Post what you need. Dates, money, place, and the crafts. About two minutes. The form asks what the kind of hiring actually needs — shoot days and a day rate for a freelance job, a start date and a salary for a permanent one.
- Or go and find them. Search people by craft, city, free days and kit, keep them on a shortlist, and offer a particular person a particular job.
- Shortlist and message. Anybody who applied can be messaged straight away.
- Say who you hired, and confirm the credit afterwards. It takes one tap and it is what their next job depends on.
Who you can hire
You choose whether a job is open to individuals, to businesses, or to anyone. It is what stops a focus puller’s job filling with production houses. Employment — part-time and full-time — can only be offered to a person: a business cannot be put on a payroll.
People and businesses are searched in separate tabs and are never ranked against each other, so a business of thirty can never push one freelancer down a list.
What we ask of you
- Say what it pays, on the gig. A rate you will not write down is a rate nobody trusts.
- Answer the people who applied, even when the answer is no.
- Confirm the credit when the job is done. It costs you one tap and it is the whole of what somebody has to show for the work.
- Never ask crew for money, for anything, ever.
